Shortly after "C'mon, C'mon" was first announced as the title to Sheryl's first new studio album in two and a half years, the cover image was supplied to amazon.com, sheryl's official site, and many other places around the web. The official site created several clever and slick .gif files for people to use on their webpages promoting Sheryl's new album. These .gif files were all adopted from the then cover art, and featured the release date of April 9th, 2002.
Then, without warning, the label thought better of the original art, and replaced the cover with a fantastic new one. Problem? The old one was already out there, and a few promotional releases already featured art that was in line with the original cover style. Here's a look at the varying image of C'mon C'mon.

Above you see the original version of the cover to your left, and to your right, the Hansonesque new cover. I must admit that when I first saw the original, I really thought it looked like the kind of thing that would be best used for a fall release, and thus the new one is probably more appropriate for an April release date. Especially as the first single is called "Soak Up The Sun", not "Twilight In The Mountains (Get Your Coat On And Freeze Your Ass)".
Speaking of "Soak Up The Sun", the problem with changing covers at the last minute is, chances are, your promo singles have already gone out. Here are images of the European and US "Soak Up The Sun" promos, obviously designed to match the original artwork.

On top of all this, the fairly new Official Site went to extraordinary lengths to design some really fabulous banners, for use by websites featuring Sheryl, to promote the new album, and the official site. Well...I don't have to tell you that when the cover changed, so did the fantastic banners. Here's look at the four different banner sizes, in both versions. PLEASE NOTE: I have made each of them a link to the Official Site, since they were the ones who designed the things!

I hope you've enjoyed this little trip around the C'mon, C'mon cover, and hopefully it serves as a lesson in the strange things record labels can do. Whether you like the old one or the new one, there's one thing you'd be hard pressed to disagree about. The music inside will be fantastic!
C'mon, C'mon is in stores from April 16th.
HEY YOU!: All of these pictures have been nicked from various places on the net. The original cover comes from amazon.com. The new cover comes from www.sherylcrow.com, as do the images for the promotional banners. The single images have been shamelessly plunked from ebay, because I don't have a working scanner at the moment. If you are a rights holder, or a source of these images, and you want them removed, let me know.
