SHERYL ODDITIES

These discs are generally not musically necessary, but are interesting looking, or rare, or just wierd. This page is by no means absolutely complete, but is just a sampling of what is out there. There is some overlap between this discography and the international one, but that is necessary to make this list useful, and not just a repository for some things that don't fit on other lists, even though that is really what it is. I'll add to it when I get around to it! :)

NEWLY UPDATED FOR 2002!

FOREIGN PROMOS

Run Baby Run (580 381 2(DJ); UK, 1993

Run Baby Run/All By Myself/The Na Na Song/Reach Around Jerk

The promo copy of the hard to locate first UK single is visually almost identical to the released version, save a sticker on the art which reads "Promotional Copy Only Not For Resale", and has an A&M logo on it. The disc itself has a "Promo Copy Only Not For Resale" warning, and in the catalogue number box, it claims to be 580 381 2DJ. Historic, but not as interesting as many later promos.

What I Can Do For You (580 463 2(DJ); UK, 1993)

What I Can Do For You (Radio Edit)/What I Can Do For You (LP Version)/Volvo Cowgirl 99/I Shall Believe

The promo version of this highly sought after early disc (the only source for the studio version of "Volvo Cowgirl") has no markings on the art, but a "DJ" addendum to the catalogue number on the disc, and a "Promo Only Not For Sale" warning. Again, nowhere near as interesting as some of the French, Mexican, or even later UK promos detailed further down.

Run Baby Run (580 569 2(DJ); UK, 1994)

Run Baby Run/Leaving Las Vegas (acoustic version)/All By Myself/Reach Around Jerk

The second issue "Run Baby Run" promo features the return of the round promo sticker detailed in the previous "Run Baby Run" listing, as well as the text "Promo Copy Only. Not For Sale." Other than that, blink and you might miss it.

Leaving Las Vegas (580 645 2DJ; UK, 1994)

Leaving Las Vegas/I Shall Believe (live in Nashville)/What I Can Do For You (live)

The first head-to-toe specially made UK promo, and the first really notable oddity. This disc is the same as the digipack which bears an enormously similar catalogue number (hint - remove the DJ!), only it is in a slimline case, rather than a digipack! The artwork only gives the game away as a promo by listing the catalogue number with the DJ extension, while the disc does the same, and includes a "Promo only - Not for sale" warning.

All I Wanna Do (1887; French, 1994)

All I Wanna Do

This promo is in a white sleeve with a title sticker in black print. Visually it is not interesting at all, but it is a rare early era foreign Sheryl promo.

All I Wanna Do (SHERY2 2; Spanish, 1995)

All I Wanna Do/All I Wanna Do (Beat Version)

This promo may be the most interesting non-standard (read non US/UK/Ger) release, as it features two versions of the track, both recorded in Spain, and otherwise unavailable. This is one of those discs that I list here even though it is in the regular discography, because it is so strange and important. The cover is a paper sleeve, featuring a picture from Sheryl in her Unplugged! appearance in 1995.

If It Makes You Happy (588 492 2; UK, 1996)

If It Makes You Happy (edit)

A UK promo, in a slimline case. Visually identical to the UK standard release (at least from the front), and musically unnecessary, as the edit is also on several standard singles.

If It Makes You Happy (CDP474; Mexico 1996)

If It Makes You Happy (edit)

This two track single features IIMYH, and "Lovefool" by the Cardigans. This disc is in a diecut sleeve, with an orange and purple psychadelic swirl pattern on the disc itself. This promo is interesting, but nowhere near as cool as the Mexican "A Change" which would come out in 1997.

Everyday Is A Winding Road (588 466 2; UK)

Everyday Is A Winding Road

Musically very unnecessary, as it includes the LP version of the track. Visually, it is quite similar to the commercial UK digipack single, and is in a slimline case.

Hard To Make A Stand (HTMAS1; UK)

Hard To Make A Stand

This promo, again featuring the standard LP version of the track, features the cover art found on the digipack version of the commercial release, but is on a slimline case.

A Change (CDP 590; Mexican)

A Change

The most interesting and visually striking of all Sheryl's musically redundant issues globally. This Mexican promo features the standard version of the track, and is in a generic Polygram promotional paper case, with a diecut hole in order to see the disc. The disc itself is the striking part, featuring a photo of Sheryl with her hair straightened which has been slightly colorized to add some nice blues. Very attractive.

Home (HOME CD1; UK)

Home (radio edit)

The word boring did enter my mind when I sought words to describe this promo. Again, pretty much the commercial cover art, in a slimline case.

Tomorrow Never Dies (588 556 2; UK)

Tomorrow Never Dies (radio edit)

This release is as most UK promo releases, in standard cover art, and a slimline jewel case.

Tomorrow Never Dies (3710; French)

Tomorrow Never Dies

Nothing special here. This one is in a paper sleeve.

My Favorite Mistake (588 608 2; UK)

My Favorite Mistake

This UK promo breaks a trend. This time, it is in the same cover art as the regular release (the one with yellow accenting) , in a digipack, not a slimline case.

My Favorite Mistake (3917; French)

My Favorite Mistake

Features the yellow accented version of the cover art, but in a paper sleeve.

My Favorite Mistake (CDP 00053; Mexican)

My Favorite Mistake

Another interesting Mexican promo, with the yellow accented design, but with the photo found on the inside of the UK digipack as the cover photo. In a paper sleeve.

The Globe Sessions (ADV/540 974 2; UK)

A very interesting promo. This UK advance copy is totally different from the US version (which is in a paper bag like design, and includes postcards). This edition is the LP in a slimline case, and uses the LP cover art, using the UK titleing, showing more than the regular release. Rest of the case is a sombre black, and the disc is in grey.

The Globe Sessions (7254; French)

Another nice TGS promo. The cover of this paper sleeved disc features the US cover art, but in complete black and white (including the title strip). The black back cover features track listings and "Sheryl Crow" in the font used for the "My Favorite Mistake" discs, in all caps, with the "Sheryl Crow" in a nice shade of yellow.

There Goes The Neighborhood (588 628 2; UK)

There Goes The Neighborhood (radio edit #1)/There Goes The Neighborhood (radio edit #2)

This time, the Brits made a fantastically interesting promo. Not only is this disc musically neccessary (for one of the edits), and thus on the other discography, but also it has visually striking (and quite thoroughly different) cover art. Apparently, this alternate cover art (featuring a black and white pic of Sheryl, with her long hair around her face, and yellow font, as used on the TGS special edition) was initially planned for the regular release.

There Goes The Neighborhood (CDP 00127; Mexican)

There Goes The Neighborhood (radio edit #1)/There Goes The Neighborhood (radio edit #2)

While the US promo of this track quite closely resembled the UK commercial releases, the Mexican disc adapts the UK promo design for a paper sleeve. Much rarer than the UK version, but just as pretty.

There Goes The Neighborhood (9036; French)

There Goes The Neighborhood

This promo, in a card sleeve, features the graphics from one of the UK commercial singles, as opposed to the graphics used for the UK promo. Musically, nothing interesting at all, just the edit of the title track, and print at the bottom that states "nouveau single".

Anything But Down (CROW 2; UK)

Anything But Down (radio edit)

Another great UK promo. This disc features a full shot of Sheryl seated, in black and white, taken from the sessions for the closeup photo which became the cover of TGS. This promo is also musically necessary (and thus is on the other list as well as this one), as, though the US promo did use the same art, it did not use the radio edit of the track.

Anything But Down (586 633 2; Spanish)

Anything But Down (radio edit)

This single, visually very similar to the UK promo, is the Spanish promo (and the only place, other than the UK promo, to get the single edit of the track). Easy to spot by the large white sticker on the front of the slimline case, noting her seven Grammy nominations (in Spanish, of course!).

Sweet Child O' Mine (XPCD 1167; UK)

Sweet Child O' Mine

The first promo of this track in a foreign land. This is the least attractive of all UK Sheryl promos, featuring a plain sleeve with her name and the title on it, and a tacky little pinkish color background which fades to white towards the top.

Sweet Child O' Mine (PRCD 97729; Mexican)

Sweet Child O' Mine (Rock Mix)/Sweet Child O' Mine (Pop Mix)

This is the only international release of the two "Rock" and "Pop" mixes of the track. The cover looks just like the US promo, but it is reformatted for a slimline case. Oh boy.

There Goes The Neighborhood (CDP 452 2; Mexican, 1999)

There Goes The Neighborhood (live in Central Park)

This promo is the *only* global promo single for the "Live In Central Park" LP. It is a various artists promo, with Sting and Live as well. The cover is split into four sections, with Sheryl appearing in the top left, in a photo from the concert. The bottom right is a piece of artwork for Live's "Run to the Water", while Sting gets two sections, top right for a head shot, and bottom left for a foot shot (no, really!). The Sting track on this is "Desert Rose" (in three versions).

Soak Up The Sun (SCCDP 1; UK/European promo, February 2002)

Soak Up The Sun (radio edit)/Soak Up The Sun (full length version)

Until the C'mon , C'mon LP comes out, this and its French card sleeve counterpart are the only way to get the full length version of Sheryl's new single. But once the new signle gets released, this one becomes an oddity! Features a cover which is an outtake from the twilight photo session that formed the original cover of C'mon , C'mon, changed on March 5th.

FOREIGN COMMERCIAL ODDITIES

Run Baby Run (580 380 2; French, 1993)

Run Baby Run/All By Myself

The first French single, and the first non-UK Sheryl single. Features the same photo and similar layout to the first UK "Run Baby Run" single, and the US promo. It is in a cardsleeve, and says "2 titres" on the cover.

Run Baby Run (580 380 2; UK, 1994)

Run Baby Run/All By Myself

This is the UK issue of the French 2 track, featuring the red artwork, and a small black circle on the cover which says "2 track CD". Otherwise identical to the above French version.

All I Wanna Do (580 654 2; French, 1994)

All I Wanna Do/What I Can Do For You (live)

The nicest of the French two track singles. Features a very well composed early photo of Sheryl sitting on cobblestone, in cutoffs and a green striped shirt. The version of "What I Can Do For You" is the Borderline version, easily found on several other, much more common, European releases.

All I Wanna Do (Japanese, 1994)

All I Wanna Do/What I Can Do For You (live)

This Japanese 3" is in a 3" by 6" digipack, and has a cover similar to the German slimline "All I Wanna Do" single. The tracks are the same as the above French version.

Leaving Las Vegas (580 497 2; Australian, 1994)

Leaving Las Vegas (radio edit)/The Na Na Song/Reach Around Jerk

A hard as hades to find Australian paper sleeved disc was released in 1994. It features cover art totally different from any other release, though all of the music can be found other places. A very small photo of this disc is on the top of this page. I also listed this on the other discography, even though it is not really important musically.

Run Baby Run (580 568-2; German, 1994)

Run Baby Run/Leaving Las Vegas (KMTT live)

This German single, in a card sleeve, was one of the first budget issues of a Sheryl track, and includes only half of what was on the original green covered single. This disc features the same photo as the green "Run Baby Run" single, and is quite similar in appearance to the one track released in Holland.

Leaving Las Vegas (580 616 2; Canadian, 1994)

Leaving Las Vegas/Run Baby Run

The only Canadian commercial Sheryl single until 1998 (see below) was released in 1994, in a jewel case with generic back artwork, and no front artwork. Visually, it is a mess, no picture of Sheryl, and her only mention on the track listing of the CD itself, but it is a strange little mess, and that gets it permission to be on this list!

Run Baby Run (581 106 2; Dutch, 1994)

Run Baby Run

This Dutch one track was released in late 1994, and uses the same photo as the green "Run Baby Run" four track. It is easily distinguished from the other, as it is in a paper sleeve, and clearly says "1 Title" on the cover. The latter is the easiest way to tell the difference between this one track, and the German two track, which looks almost identical, but does say "2 titles" on it.

Strong Enough (PODM 1050; Japanese, 1995)

Strong Enough/Leaving Las Vegas (Virgin Radio)

This is one of the three most odd Sheryl releases. Issued in Japan in a 3" "snapback" (a 6" tall, 3" wide digipack for 3" cds), It features the same picture as the USA single. At least this one has a live track, though one available several other places.

Can't Cry Anymore (581 057 2; German, 1995)

Can't Cry Anymore/What I Can Do For You (Borderline)/No One Said It Would Be Easy (Nashville)/I Shall Believe (Sherpherds Bush)

This German four track is in a slimline case, and has the same track listing as the UK, *but* it features a red cover, with a b&w pic of Sheryl touching her hand to her lips in profile. Certainly the rarer of the two versions.

Can't Cry Anymore (581 056 2; German, 1995)

Can't Cry Anymore/I Shall Believe (live at Shepherd's Bush Empire)

This German two track uses the cover art to the German 4 track above. It is in a card sleeve, and has a black "CD 2 Titles" marking on its top left corner.

Can't Cry Anymore (PODM 1055; Japanese, 1995)

Can't Cry Anymore/We Do What We Can

This is one of the three most odd Sheryl releases. Issued in Japan in a 3" "snapback" (a 6" tall, 3" wide digipack for 3" cds), It features the same picture as the USA single.

If It Makes You Happy (POCM 1199; Japanese, 1996)

If It Makes You Happy (edit)/Keep On Growing/On The Outside/The Book

Almost (but not quite) identical to a UK version of this single is the Japanese one, issued in a slimline with a obi strip. Includes the "edit" version of "If It Makes You Happy" rather than the single version.

If It Makes You Happy (581 884 2; French and UK, 1996)

If It Makes You Happy (edit)/I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday

Following the French lead of issuing two track budget discs in paper sleeves, this disc was issued in both the UK and France. The cover art is the same as the regular releases.

Everyday Is A Winding Road (582 048 2; French and UK, 1996)

Everyday Is A Winding Road/Free Man

Again, a paper sleeved budget single, with the same cover art as the regular issues. The main difference between the UK and French versions of these discs (which have the same catalog number) is that the front of the UK on says "2 Titles" on the front, and the French one says "2 Titres".

Tomorrow Never Dies (POCM 1232; Japanese, 1997)

Tomorrow Never Dies/Strong Enough

This commercial oddity is graphically very similar to the UK release, but is a 3" CD, in a 5" slimline case. The last 3" Sheryl disc ever (there were three earlier Japanese 3"s).

My Favorite Mistake (POCM 1254; Japanese, 1998)

My Favorite Mistake/In Need/Carolina/Subway Ride

This Japanese slimline is very similar to other global releases, but includes four tracks. Has an obi strip.

My Favorite Mistake (582 760 2; French, 1998)

My Favorite Mistake/In Need

Uses the same photo as the cover of The Globe Sessions. All in all, the promo issue of this disc is much more attractive and interesting.

My Favorite Mistake (314 582 763 2; Canadian, 1998)

My Favorite Mistake/Subway Ride/Crash & Burn

The only commercial issue of a Sheryl single from TGS in North America so far looks just like its UK counterpart, but is in a standard jewel case. In fact, the only signs that it is actually Canadian are found on the inside. So keep it shut and pretend A&M in the US had the sense to issue a US MFM single. Or alternately, just sort of stare at it until your eyes glaze over. Either way, you're gonna be bored with this one pretty quick, considering how much it resembles the UK release.

There Goes The Neighborhood (582 806 2; French, 19998

There Goes The Neighborhood (radio edit #1)/Run Baby Run

This French commercial single is almost identical to the French promo, but it doesn't say "nouveau single". Also in a paper sleeve. Includes the TNMC studio version of "Run Baby Run".

FOREIGN TEST PRESSINGS

Run Baby Run (UK, 1995)

Run Baby Run/Can't Cry Anymore (live at Nashville)/Reach Around Jerk (live in Nashville)/I Shall Believe (live in Nashville)

This test-pressing is of one of the Run Baby Run 1995 UK singles. It has generic "Reference CD" A&M printing on the disc, and no artwork.

What I Can Do For You (UK, 1995)

What I Can Do For You/D'yer Mak'er/I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday/No One Said It Would Be Easy

Another test-pressing, distributed as a promo for the disc.

Everyday Is A Winding Road (UK, 1996)

Everyday Is A Winding Road/Strong Enough/Can't Cry Anymore/What I Can Do For You

This test pressing was made to fill demand for the track, before the art and the promo were prepared. Unlike previous discs, it does not even say A&M on it, just "ref.", and the standard rights disclaimer along the edge.

Sweet Child O' Mine (UK, 1999)

Sweet Child O' Mine (Rock Mix)

This UK Whitfield Mastering Studios reference disc has been the only UK pressing of the "Rock Mix" of the track to date. It features a generic white Whitfield Street insert, with the info printed on it, and a large sticker stating "New Mix". There is no back insert.

There's a lot more to be listed, its just a matter of me bothering to put them up. But here's a decent size sample of some of the craziness that goes on in the realm of foreign Sheryl discs that are to be bought for the appearance, not the music!
