A guide to some of the most notable SC radio syndication discs made. Not included here would be any A&M promos, or discs released in any way to the general public. Also, this list is designed to cover musical performances different from those released in some form, and does not include stuff that only features new interviews. Just a selection of the best radio programs distributed on CD. These CDs are amongst the most collectable of all Sheryl releases, as they are made and licensed specifically for a one-time radio broadcast, and are then usually destroyed or recalled. Here goes...
In Concert: New Rock (Westwood One # 95-22; 1CD, [week of May 22] 1995)
Can't Cry Anymore/Strong Enough/All I Wanna Do/Reach Around Jerk/Love Is A Good Thing/Leaving Las Vegas
Recorded at Shepherd's Bush Empire, June 1994. This was Sheryl's first syndicated US broadcast. Also on the program that night were Oasis, in their first US syndicated radio appearance. The second disc of the two is the one that features Sheryl.
In Concert (Westwood One # 95-36; 1CD, [week of August 28] 1995)
Can't Cry Anymore/Strong Enough/All I Wanna Do/Reach Around Jerk/Love Is A Good Thing/Leaving Las Vegas.
Recorded at the Shepherd's Bush Empire, June 1994. This rebroadcast of the Shepherd's Bush gig (EXTREMELY edited) and that night Sheryl was on the first disc, and Blues Traveller was on the second.
Westwood One Concerts: Volume II (Westwood One; sampler CD, [not for broadcast] 1995)
(includes) All I Wanna Do
This various artists compilation of track from artists as varied as the Rolling Stones, Nirvana, and Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, featured Sheryl's version of "All I Wanna Do" from the Shepherd's Buch Empire, already broadcast twice by WW1. This CD was not designed for broadcast, but rather was sent out to radio stations in an effort to interest them in subcribing to WW1's concert series. However, A&M did not official condone the issue of this track, so it is not considered a regualr radio promo, but is (in my and most other collectors eyes) most properly placed here, along with the rest of WW1's output.
Up Close (Media America Radio; 1CD, [January] 1997)
[includes] Strong Enough (impromptu, backstage at Woodstock '94)
This career overview, created to promote Sheryl Crow, featured the record versions of lots of Sheryl's hits, and a lot of interview material. The part that puts it on this list, though, is Sheryl's backstage performace of "Strong Enough" from Woodstock '94, unavailable (legitimately or otherwise) on any other disc.
Live From The Pit (Global Satellite Network; 2CD, [Feb 24- Mar 2] 1997)
[disc one] If It Makes You Happy/Hard To Make A Stand/Leaving Las Vegas/A Change/Run Baby Run/Everyday Is A Winding Road/Sweet Rosalyn/Redemption Day
[disc two] All I Wanna Do/The Na Na Song/I Shall Believe/The Weight (with the Wallflowers)This 2 CD show features Sheryl live at the Roxy in Atlanta, Georgia, in Jnauary, 1997. The Wallflowers aid Sheryl in performing the last track, which she has only performed (for CD at least) this one time. This program has been released as a bootleg called "Angels, Aliens And Elvis", on the OP8 label, in an edited form. removing DJ conversation and commercials.
In Concert (Westwood One #97-39; 2CD, [week of Sept 22] 1997)
[disc one] If it Makes you Happy/Hard to Make A Stand/Can't Cry Anymore.
[disc two]Run Baby Run/Everyday Is A Winding Road/Strong Enough/Sway/All I Wanna Do/Leaving Las Vegas. Here Sheryl is the second half of a show which also featured K's Choice. The most important track on this disc, recorded on tour in '97, is "Sway", only available on this disc and its rebroadcast.
In Concert (Westwood One #98-07; 1CD, [week of Feb 9] 1998)
Strong Enough/Sway/Run Baby Run/Everyday Is A Winding Road
Here, on the second disc of a show which also featured DMB and the Wallflowers, is a rebroadcast of a portion of the #97-39 show, again featuring her performance of the Rolling Stones "Sway".
The Trinity Church Sessions (SFX/Album Network; 2CD, [Jan 27-31] 1999)
[disc one] If It Makes You Happy/A Change/My Favorite Mistake/Riverwide/It Don't Hurt/Leaving Las Vegas/Anything But Down/Is It Like Today (sung by Tim Smith)/Strong Enough/Mississippi
[disc two] The Difficult Kind/Everyday is a Winding RoadRecorded on November 13, 1998, at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Toronto, Canada. This acoustic gig was an invitation only concert, and was recorded with great skill, making it one of the best recorded SC live performances ever. A&M apparently agreed with this estimation, and has released over half of these tracks commercially on various The Globe Sessions product.
American Express Presents: Central Park In Blue (SFX/Album Network; 2CD, [Sept 16-19] 1999)
[disc one] A Change Would Do You Good/Anything But Down/Can't Cry Anymore/Leaving Las Vegas/ Angel (Sarah McLachlan with Sheryl Crow)/Sweet Child 'O Mine/Am I Getting Through
[disc two] Everyday Is A Winding Road/Strong Enough (with Natalie Maines)/Gold Dust Woman (Stevie Nicks with Sheryl Crow)/ My Favorite Mistake/If It Makes You Happy (Chrissie Hynde with Sheryl Crow)/Happy (Keith Richards with Sheryl Crow)/The Difficult Kind/White Room (Eric Clapton with Sheryl Crow)/There Goes The NeighborhoodRecorded on September 14, 1999, in the pouring rain at the "American Express Presents: Central Park in Blue" concert, also broadcast on the FOX tv network. Most of this was released on the A&M CD Sheryl Crow & Friends: Live From Central Park, but this disc presents segments as they were heard at the actual concert with some cuts, notably the absence of "It Don't Hurt", "All I Wanna Do", and the multi-artist finale - "Tombstone Blues". At the end of the fist disc, Sheryl starts up a song ("All I Wanna Do"), only to say "Oh, we've just been cut short. We're goin' to tv, so y'all hang loose", revealing that the first few tracks were actually recorded as a warm up *before* the FOX Special went on air.
Thanks to Sean for moral support, early mistake prevention, and the like.
